‘Large corporation admits data breach – millions of pieces of personal information compromised!’ Seems we can’t go a week without another news story on data breaches, right? Why is this? Well, personal data is worth money, and criminals understand the value of obtaining it. Even when it’s leaked online, personal data can do huge damage to an organisation.
Data breaches, by such obviously illegal acts such as hacking, or simply misplacing files so they end up in the wrong hands, can have serious consequences. Both to organisations, and to the individuals they can affect. The good thing is that you can do something about them.
